Summit Environmental Policy

The policy of Summit is to strive for world-class performance in a manner that protects the safety and health of its employees, customers, contractors, suppliers, visitors and public.

Summit’s Occupational Health & Safety System forms part of the company’s management system which includes an Environmental component.

The Occupational Health & Safety System is based on the requirements of the Australian Standard:

AS 4801 ~ 2000

Everyone has safety responsibilities. Summit`s Director has assumed responsibility of the employer in providing a safe system of work and is accountable for ensuring that Summit  complies with the standard and all relevant legislation.

Summit is committed to the continual improvement of objectives and targets which are aimed at  the elimination or control of work related injury and illness and the effective rehabilitation of employees back into the work environment.

Managers, supervisors and section heads all have responsibilities for the planning and implementation of safety, health and welfare policies in the workplace.

Employees have a legal responsibility to follow safe working methods as practiced at Summit and set out OH&S Procedures. Importantly, employees must protect their own safety, health and welfare and avoid adversely affecting the safety, health and welfare of any other person.

Achievements of a healthy and safe work environment relies on training and consultation. The Director is responsible for co-ordinating training and consultation with Summit’s Occupational Health and Safety Committee, health and safety representatives, management, the unions and government agencies. Employees and sub-contractors are encouraged to discuss safety, health and welfare issues with their supervisors, committee member and/or the elected health and safety representative.

The parties agree that Summit's Occupational Health & Safety System will be reviewed annually so as to ensure statutory compliance and the establishment of best practice occupational, health, safety and welfare standards. This policy will be issued to all employees, sub-contractors, suppliers and other relevant parties.
