Summit is committed to the continual improvement of
objectives and targets which are aimed at the elimination or control of work
related injury and illness and the effective rehabilitation of employees
back into the work environment.
Managers, supervisors and section heads all have
responsibilities for the planning and implementation of safety, health
and welfare policies in the workplace.
Employees have a legal responsibility to follow safe
working methods as practiced at Summit and set out OH&S Procedures.
Importantly, employees must protect their own safety, health and welfare
and avoid adversely affecting the safety, health and welfare of any
other person.
Achievements of a healthy and safe work environment relies on
training and consultation. The Director is responsible for
co-ordinating training and consultation with Summit’s Occupational
Health and Safety Committee, health and safety representatives,
management, the unions and government agencies. Employees and
sub-contractors are encouraged to discuss safety, health and welfare
issues with their supervisors, committee member and/or the elected
health and safety representative.
The parties agree that Summit's Occupational Health &
Safety System will be reviewed annually so as to ensure statutory
compliance and the establishment of best practice occupational, health,
safety and welfare standards. This policy will be issued to all
